- My
Scanner Model is Not
Shown...:
-
- Approximately
6 years ago, the US government passed and put
into practice a law that precludes scanner
manufacturers from making "easily modifiable
scanners and receivers". This has translated
to mean that any scanner manufactured since
early 1995, probably cannot be modified by
clipping a diode or adding a few
wires.
-
- You can
however, still purchase a frequency
converter. A converter will lower the
incoming frequency by approximately 400 MHZ.
You can then tune to any channel 400 MHZ
above that showing in the display. Example
"376.75MHZ" showing would actually be
776.75MHZ. Of course this would allow a
person to pickup cellular frequencies which
are blocked by law. So be sure not to
inadvertently scan the cellular
frequencies.
-
- Downconverters
are sold as kits by JDR Microdevices. Call
1-800-538-5000 and ask for a catalog or to
place an order. The part is #RK-SCN1, and it
sells for $54.99 plus postage. The case to
fit it is #RK-CSCN, and sells for $14.99.
You'll also need an A/C adapter and suitable
cables.
-
- The
converter is wired between the receiving
antenna and the scanners antenna connection.
A simple on-off switch is the only control.
The kit does not require any modification to
the scanner and is usable on any make or
model.
